Abstract

One of the most fascinating phases of history can be traced in mankind's treatment of the mentally ill. Superstition, black and white magic has governed the original impressions of this group. Without a doubt, the greatest sciences of today have been created toward furthering the intelligence of mankind. What greater task can medicine and its allied co-worker nursing take up than keeping that intelligence in good working order? This is perhaps an original and somewhat startling conception of that branch of medicine treating that group of people once contemptuously called "crazy."
