Abstract

TMEM63B is a newly identified mechanosensor that is found in many dorsal root ganglion neurons. Dorsal root ganglion neurons are responsible somatosensation and one aspect of somatosenstion is encoding mechanical forces on the skin like vibration or hairpull. These neurons use molecular sensors to transduce these external forces into neuronal activation, and the molecular sensor for low-threshold forces is PIEZO2. Because the high-threshold sensor is unknow, I attempted to access TMEM63B as a sensor for high-threshold force.
