In this interview, Dr. Ted Merrill reflects on his life dedicated to medicine. After a childhood apprenticeship with a local doctor in Fairfield, Idaho, he pursued pre-med at the University of Idaho. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, continuing his medical studies at Columbia University. By 1958, he had settled in John Day, Oregon, where he spent most of his career, delivering over 2,000 babies and serving the community. He also taught in Vermont and was a committed member of Physicians for Social Responsibility. He speaks about rural medicine and the changes in medical practice over his career.
