Abstract
As OHSU works to diversify its pool of admitted students in alignment with the 30-30-30 plan, we can expect that we will be seeing an increasing number of students with complex academic and personal needs. However, educators and student service professionals can at times be dismayed to find that students who are in the most need assistance are too overwhelmed to effectively take in information or to make the changes necessary to improve their learning outcomes. Though there are many factors that contribute to student overwhelm, we know that students in distress struggle to take in new information.
