This dissertation uses nonhuman primate models to define how emerging arboviruses disrupt placental function and threaten fetal health. Through comparative studies of Zika virus strains and evaluation of a virus-like particle vaccine, this work identifies key mechanisms underlying congenital disease and pregnancy loss. The development of a contemporary O’nyong-nyong virus model further expands these findings to support vaccine development and epidemic preparedness.
