Abstract
This project showcases how Design Thinking can be used as a practical framework to teach innovation within graduate medical education. By applying human-centered design principles to redesign an emergency department sign‑out process, residents rapidly developed a solution that was both efficient and user-friendly. The streamlined template, implemented within three weeks, improved workflow and communication while earning strong qualitative support from clinicians. This work highlights the value of Design Thinking as an accessible, learner‑driven approach to quality improvement.
