Metabolic syndrome is associated with increased rate of complications following esophagectomy for esophageal adenocarcinoma

This study examines the effect of metabolic syndrome in perioperative outcomes following esophagectomy for esophageal adenocarcinoma. We find that the risk of complication is significantly higher in those with metabolic syndrome, and that metabolic syndrome is an independent predictor of surgical complication in this population.
