Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most common hematologic disorder in pregnancy, resulting from inadequate iron stores to meet the increased demands of hemoglobin production. Iron deficiency is the leading cause of anemia in the antepartum period and may progress to IDA without timely intervention. Diagnosis relies on trimester‑specific hemoglobin thresholds along with evidence of depleted iron stores, most often low serum ferritin. This quality improvement project focuses on standardizing screening, diagnosis, and management practices for iron deficiency and IDA during pregnancy to support early identification and optimal maternal outcomes.
