Japanese flag
Medical Museum Collection, 77-149.1.36
ca. 1940?
Digital scan of a Japanese Battle Flag. Made of coarse cotton, signed by American Military Personnel. These WWII "meatball" flags were often tied to a bayonet or mounted on a rifle. During World War II the Japanese hinomaru or sun disk, which appeared as a large red disk on aircraft, vehicles and flags, was derisively called "meatball" by Allied forces. Donated by Roger H. Keane, MD in 1945
