Abstract

Food insecurity refers to the limited ability to access food and is often linked to hunger. It negatively affects adult health, worsening issues like disease management and obesity, with a more significant impact on women. It may also contribute to mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. During pregnancy, women face unique challenges, including increased nutritional needs and the risk of food insecurity. This has been associated with negative outcomes, particularly antenatal depression. This study tests the hypothesis that food-insecure women during pregnancy are more likely to experience antenatal depression.
