Abstract
Neurons rely on selective vesicle transport to maintain axonal and dendritic specialization. This study investigated mechanisms underlying dendrite-selective transport, focusing on kinesin motors. We identified KIF13B, a Kinesin-3 family member, as the first motor to traffic vesicles exclusively in dendrites. Functional assays revealed that the motor domain alone is insufficient for selectivity, suggesting cooperation with other elements. Using a split-kinesin assay, we found KIF1A, KIF13A, and KIF13B interact with dendritic vesicles, with selectivity influenced by cargo binding. These findings highlight kinesins’ role in dendrite-specific transport and provide a foundation for elucidating regulatory mechanisms governing neuronal polarity.
