Abstract

Transgender youth face discrimination and mistreatment in many areas of their lives that contribute to poorer mental health outcomes as compared to their non-transgender counterparts. This discrimination and mistreatment extends to medical providers that they entrust with their care. Providers often are not provided with educational opportunities about how to provide high quality care to members of this population. In response to this lack of training, this quality improvement project was created for the staff of Providence Willamette Falls' Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit (CAPU). An online training module was developed, implemented, and evaluated specific to the needs of this unit. The aim of this project was to help the staff of this unit to increase cultural competency with population.
