Abstract

Globally, there are 222 million women who want to space or limit their pregnancies but are not currently using contraception. As a result, each year there are millions of unintended pregnancies worldwide. Furthermore, pregnancies that are spaced too closely or that occur in high parity women are associated with increased maternal mortality and morbidity, and carry a greater risk of pre-term birth, low birth weight, and neonatal mortality.
