Abstract
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) offers vital health services, including nutrition education and breastfeeding support, to low-income women, infants, and children. In 2016, over 3,200 WIC participants in Oregon identified as Asian, yet research focusing specifically on this group, especially in the Pacific Northwest, is limited. Current studies show low breastfeeding rates among Asian women, who often make feeding decisions influenced by family and cultural beliefs regarding food impact on breast milk quality. Understanding these cultural dynamics is essential for enhancing WIC's nutrition education and support services, particularly as more Asian families enroll in the program in Oregon.
