This thesis focuses on acid‑sensing ion channels (ASICs), with particular attention to their mechanisms of activation and desensitization. ASICs are proton‑gated ion channels expressed throughout the nervous system. Although their precise physiological role remains unclear, they are thought to function as sensors of nociceptive signaling triggered by changes in extracellular pH.
