Individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are at higher risk of developing substance use disorders (SUD). This combination puts individuals at increased risk for numerous negative psychosocial and health related consequences including premature death. Identifying individuals with both conditions is a necessary first step in treatment that starts with initial standardized screening. This project was directed at improving the screening practices prior to psychiatric referral and subsequent treatment of clients identified with comorbid ADHD and SUD in a federally qualified health center serving a large percentage of clients with SUD.
