Abstract

Patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support often experience acute kidney injury (AKI) as a result of their inciting illness and are at high risk for progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hemodialysis dependence. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) supports renal function during AKI until renal recovery can occur, yet current research is unclear if CRRT can prevent progression to CKD. A retrospective study was conducted to explore the association of early CRRT implementation and renal recovery in patients requiring ECMO support.
