Despite regulatory efforts, quality-of-care problems persist in nursing homes, suggesting that how nursing staff are organized may be as important as staffing levels. This cross-sectional study examined the relationship between nursing practice models and job satisfaction and burnout among nursing home staff. Using survey data from 183 RNs, LPNs, and CNAs in eleven nursing homes, nursing practice model components were assessed alongside measures of burnout and job satisfaction. After controlling for staff and organizational characteristics, nursing practice model components explained the greatest variance in job satisfaction and emotional exhaustion. Findings highlight the importance of nursing practice organization in improving staff outcomes in nursing homes.
