Abstract

There is a shortage of primary care providers in rural Oregon. This is supported by the Healthcare Provider Shortage Areas as designated by the Oregon Health Authority. Some studies have been done to assess successful recruitment strategies for rural practice showing that most rural practitioners come from a rural background and that early exposure to the medical field leads to more interest in pursuing a medical career. The objective of this project is to encourage high school students in rural Oregon to pursue careers in medicine and return to these areas for practice, thereby addressing the severe shortage of healthcare providers in these areas.
