Abstract

Health Bridges International, the supporting organization for this project, is an NGO that has worked in Peru for more than 23 years, focusing on developing health programs and connecting communities to resources. An area of their interest is Alto Cayma, which is a fascinating community that sits literally on the slope of a volcano, and overlooks Peru's second largest city, Arequipa. The community is incredibly underserved, with limited access to water and electricity. What makes it particularly interesting is that it rides a dividing line between urban and rural. Most of the people in Alto Cayma are from migrant families, who traveled down from the high Andes mountains, looking for an easier life- but not quite reaching it. Our primary questions are: What does wellness mean to the people of Alto Cayma? And what do the people of Alto Cayma wish for, in order to improve their wellness?
