Existing research has evaluated the optimal incisor inclination as it relates to various cephalometric values, but few have related it to soft tissue profile. The aims of this study were to establish the esthetic preferences of laypeople when viewing smiling profiles depicting a range of (1) nasal base angulations for a given labiolingual incisor inclination, and (2) labiolingual incisor inclinations for a given nasal base angulation. Secondary objectives included evaluation of the impact of raters' gender and racial/ethnic identities, as well as subjects' gender.
