Description

Dr. Blair Peters (he/they) is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and Assistant Professor of surgery, and is also one of the first North American surgeons to complete a comprehensive gender-affirming surgery fellowship at OHSU. In this interview, Dr. Peters discusses how he arrived to plastic and reconstructive surgery during medical school, how their queer identity has informed their medical practice over the course of his career, and his hopes for the future of gender-affirming medical care. Other topics of discussion in this interview are the power of personal connection with LGBTQ+ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning] patients, their feelings about professionalism in academic and clinical settings, and the role that mentorship has played for him as both a mentor and a mentee.
