Abstract

This is a basic science project to study the mechanism of a novel, broad-spectrum antiviral small molecule series. The small molecule series, SR-33001, inhibits Herpes, Alpha, and Flavi viruses in vitro. The broad-spectrum activity of the compound indicates a host protein may be the target. It does not effect nucleic acid transcription, but does inhibit early and late protein translation in HCMV. A potential molecular target, HSPBeta1 (Hsp27), was identified by co-precipitation pulldown assay.
