Clinical education is an integral part of nursing education. Students regard their clinical experiences as the cornerstone of their nursing education; however, students, faculty, health systems, and nurses agree that nursing education has been challenged to keep up with the rapidly developing field of nursing practice and new nurses are unprepared for the complexities of the current practice environment. Although national efforts to reform nursing education have been encouraging, there remains a paucity of research in clinical education.
