Abstract

Exercise has proven to be effective in improving both physical and mental health in those with cancer during and after treatment. Physical activity has been shown to decrease fatigue, depression, and anxiety amongst other side effects in cancer survivors. The HHS and the American Cancer Society have published guidelines to suggest the amount of weekly exercise necessary to elicit results and these sites, in addition to their medical providers, should be used as a resources to help guide patients throughout their exercise journey. Finally, exercise has been shown to be safe in cancer survivorship with limited adverse events occurring in patients during and after cancer treatment. It is important for medical providers to be aware of the exercise recommendations when treating patients with cancer and it is critical that exercise is discussed with patients before, during, and after cancer treatment.
