Abstract

In the United States, over 29 million 15 to 24-year-olds have to navigate complex decisions about their sexual behaviors and reproductive health, including whether and when to have sex, who to have sex with, how to protect against sexually transmitted infections, and how to plan for or prevent pregnancy. We developed and evaluated a web-based decision aid using patient-centered, shared decision making, and health equity approaches to create a foundation of sexual health knowledge for patients and aid patients with contraceptive choices. Patients reported Healthy Sex Choices to be acceptable and reduced their decisional conflict. This study laid a foundation for creating decision tools within reproductive health that acknowledge and guides diverse patient populations.
