A Comprehensive Thalamocortical Projection Map at the Mesoscopic Level

This collection features high-resolution images and data analyses mapping thalamocortical connections—key to sensorimotor integration and executive function. Using viral tracing (AAV2/1) and high-speed imaging (NanoZoomer, serial #12090), thalamic projections to cortical targets were labeled and imaged in 75 brains with 254 injections.

The result is a comprehensive projection map detailing the thalamic origins of 19 cortical areas. Data were generated by Barbara Hunnicutt, Brian Long, Deniz Kusefoglu, Katrina Gertz, Haining Zhong, and Tianyi Mao and the Mao Lab.
