Abstract

Veterinary medicine prevalence has grown over time and companion animal medicine as a subset has increased in popularity. While benefiting from some health information technology seen in human healthcare, such as electronic health records (EHR), growth in areas such as clinical decision support (CDS) tool adoption rate slower in comparison. The demand for veterinary services has grown exponentially, and stress on the veterinary healthcare system worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Veterinary burnout trend seeing year over year increases, with over 50% of us veterinarians suffering burnout. This study seeks to review the existing literature on veterinary CDS tools or systems, and review of the implications of CDS usage on the growing veterinary professional burnout rates and any connected financial/economic impacts.
