Abstract
The research to be presented in this thesis addresses the topic of information gathering, information extraction and information filtering in the area of bioinformatics. The thesis has two main goals. First, it will show the reader how the fluidity of the web has made it cumbersome for scientists to use tools to access, manage and analyze biological data. Second, it will show how collaborative agent technology can be used as a tool to solve this problem. The latter will be accomplished by presenting the reader with a software program developed specifically to provide bioinformaticians and scientists with a mechanism to delegate tasks to agents that are experts at performing specific services on behalf of the user.
