Marvin Rittenberg, Ph.D., OHSU Professor Emeritus in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, begins by recounting his educational background. He describes earning a Ph.D. in 1962 at the University of California, Los Angeles; time spent as a biochemist at the California Institute of Technology; and exposure to the field of molecular immunology. He goes on to discuss the development of the microbiology and immunology department at OHSU, his relationship with OHSU faculty, and experiences mentoring students as well as changes in academia and skill sets required for scientists today.
