Abstract

Palliative care (PC) is an interdisciplinary specialty focused on symptom relief and quality of life (QOL) for people and families living with serious illnesses from diagnosis to end-of-life. Despite the need for home-based PC and the importance of nursing in addressing it, Saudi Arabia’s HHC programs are underdeveloped, and attention to HHC nurses’ PC practice has been lacking. There is an urgent need for research addressing this gap in knowledge to inform national policy and the development of home-based PC services in Saudi Arabia with a focus on nursing. Consistent with this need, the overall aim of this manuscript dissertation was to gather information from HHC nurses and leaders about PC practice to identify areas for future development of nursing programs and the nursing workforce.
