Abstract
This work examines the role of epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) in regulating cerebral blood flow through perivascular vasodilator nerves. Using molecular, cellular, and in vivo approaches, the studies demonstrate that parasympathetic and trigeminal neurons express active CYP‑2J epoxygenases capable of producing EETs. Although EETs release from primary trigeminal neurons was not detectable, endogenous EETs were shown to regulate neuropeptide secretion. In vivo nerve‑stimulation experiments further revealed that EETs contribute significantly to cerebral blood flow increases mediated by perivascular nerves. Overall, these findings identify EETs as key modulators of neurovascular signaling within the cerebral circulation.
