Abstract

The human immune system’s relationship with cancer is incredibly complex. However, suggestions that the immune system can treat cancer have kept scientists searching for potential ways to augment immunity for over 100 years. We hypothesize that overcoming immune tolerance and activating a functional anti-tumor T cell response in cancer patients requires sufficient antigenic targets, tumor-specific primed T cells, the proper costimulatory signals, and the right cytokine milieu.
