In 2020, Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) implemented a new set of core graduation competencies for graduates from all its programs. This new set included Information Literacy and Community Engagement, Social Justice, and Equity. The OHSU Core Graduation Competencies define Information Literacy as the ability to "Recognize the power of information in educating, influencing, and understanding the world, while seeking and amplifying missing perspectives. This class, BMSC 621, was constructed to include the classic elements of information literacy and the mechanics of learning them.
